CAT Telecom launched e-smart farmSeptember 30, 2011

On September 30th, 2011, CAT Telecom launched the service “CAT e-smart farm”, an electronic food traceability system for produce, fruits, and orchid using OpsSmart technology. The main objective of the system is to solve issues of the fresh produce exported to European countries.
e-smart farm is a web-based traceability system for farms and pack-houses for day-to-day farm and pack-house management powered by OpsSmart to facilitate and record all processes of produce, fruits, and orchid that would also meet EU requirements. The GS1 EPCIS standard (unique serial numbers and standard communication) and IBM InfoSphere Traceability Server has been embedded in OpsSmart for the e-smart farm system.
Senior executives from Ministry of ICT, CAT, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Agriculture Commodities and Food Standard (ACFS), Department of Agriculture (DOA), IBM, FXA, and the European Union (EU) signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) to implement this initiative. Mr. Paul Sribhibhadh, FXA Executive chairman, said that the EU should penalize the individual company who does not meet the requirements instead of the entire industries of the country.
